Abú Media’s critically acclaimed series on the leaders of the 1916 Easter
Rising “1916 Seachtar na Cásca” has won another prestigious award, this time at
the annual Celtic Media Festival held this year in Stornaway on the Western Isles of
Scotland.
The Celtic Media Festival promotes the cultures and traditions of the Celtic countries
and Abú Media beat off strong competition from BBC Scotland, BBC Wales, S4C and
RTE to lift the award for Best Factual Series.
“We are delighted to win this award for Best Factual Series and again I am delighted
for all the crew who put so much into making it a big success”, says Producer Pierce
Boyce. “TG4 were so helpful in coming on board as our broadcaster but were also so
encouraging through the development process and without the help of them, the BAI
through it’s Sound and Vision scheme and the benefit of Section 481 financing we
would never have been able to make it.”
“This award follows up the IFTA we received earlier this year at the big awards
ceremony in Dublin”, continues Pierce “and we are delighted to have beaten off the
very stiff competition from BBC Scotland, BBC Wales, S4C and RTE. It’s a huge
achievement.”
This is the second year in a row that Abú Media have scooped this major prize as
Brid and Eileen Seoighe accepted the award last year for their producing of Mobs
Mhericea when the festival was held in Newry.
The company is currently working on a follow up series focussing on the other 7
men who were executed along with the 7 signatories ; Con Colbert, Sean Hueston,
Michael Malin, John Mcbride, Michael O’Hanrahan, Ned Daly and William Pearse.
This series will be filmed in late 2011 early 2012 and be broadcast on TG4 in 2012.
