1014 saw one of the greatest battles in Irish History. It was Good Friday and Brian Boru led his forces against the Vikings and Norsemen of Dublin leading to a defeat of the invaders and victory for the Gaels. Then with this great victory assured Brian was cruelly beheaded by the evil Bordir who was fleeing the battlefield in defeat. Or at least that is what we were all taught at school up to now.
However, Abú Media's latest historical documentary series peels back the layers to look at what actually happened based on fact, not fiction. Yes, Brian did lead his Munster men to Dublin to fight in 1014. But was it against the Vikings? Was it actually on the site that is now Clontarf?
We uncover new evidence to show this was more like a modern day battle of Munster against Leinster and the site is shown to be beside modern-day Croke Park and not Clontarf.
A 2 x 1 hour series for TG4 shooting August 2010 and TX September 2011.
